Gloriette String Quartet is an accredited member of the NSW Australian Bridal Industry Academy (ABIA) and have won the 2006 and 2007 Australian Bridal Industry Academy Award for Excellence in 'Ceremony Music' in NSW as voted by their wedding clients and other wedding industry professionals.
Maria Georgiou - Violin BMusEd (Bachelor Music Education)
Maria is the founder and music director of Gloriette String Quartet. She started playing violin at the age of 10 and first studied under the direction of Lorraine Moxey (Australian Brandenburg Orchestra). She later went on to study a Bachelor of Music Education degree at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and continued her violin studies with Alex Todicescu and Ronald Thomas.
Maria has been involved in a few orchestras such as the Sydney Youth Orchestra, Sydney Conservatorium of Music Orchestra, Penrith Symphony Orchestra and Strathfield Symphony Orchestra. For a short while she was involved in the Jesse String Quartet that played instruments specifically made for the quartet by John Godschal Johnson.
Having a greek background, she was asked to be involved in the 22nd Greek Festival of Sydney, to perform rare pieces by the greek composer Nikos Kavvadias.
Monica Jamieson - Cello BMusEd (Bachelor Music Education)
Monica started playing Cello from a young age and gained entrance into the Sydney Conservatorium of Music on the completion of her HSC. She studied under the direction of Ms Susan Blake for 5 years and previously with Mr Nigel Parry.
Monica completed a Bachelor of Music Education in 2000 and has been teaching ever since.
She played with Orchestras such as the Western Youth Orchestra while in high school and later with the SBS Youth Orchestra where she was the principle Cellist for 3 years. Toured around Europe with SBS to Estonia, Finland Russia and Spain.
Monica is enjoying life playing at weddings and corporate functions and is currently playing with the Willoughby Symphony Orchestra.
John Bellamy - Viola BA Mass Communication, Certificate IV
John Bellamy is a Sydney based composer and sound designer writing for film, TV, advertising and multimedia.
Playing piano from an early age, and later the pipe organ, John took up Violin studies with Sister Cecilia of Grafton and moved on to Viola under the tutelage of David Maddick and later Laslo Vidak, of the SSO.
John has been a member of many successful orchestras, bands and other musical ensembles including the SBS Youth Orchestra, JADO string Quartet, the Paddington String Quartet, Macquarie University String Quartet, The Macquarie University Orchestra, and is currently playing with the Gloriette String Quartet.
He studied film and TV (BA Mass Comm) at Macquarie University and has directed, produced and acted in several short films, plays, and other theatrical events. It is this unique experience both in front of and behind the camera that John brings to his work in composing for the screen and theatrical production. John went on to further his musical education at Eora College. In 2003 he was awarded the state award for music Certificate IV.
Today, John works from Clovelly, with clients both in Sydney and from far away places. In his spare time he is working on songs and other musical collaborations and would one day like to write a musical.
Joanne Toouli - Violin BMus(Perf) MMus(Perf) (Bachelor Music Performance & Master of Music Performance)
Joanne began playing the violin when she was three years old. She completed a Bachelor of Music (performance) and Masters of Music (performance) at the Sydney Conservatorium and has studied at the Mozarteum Summer Academy in Salzburg, Austria. Joanne has a keen interest in teaching and has a number of private students. She also conducts a school string ensemble and orchestra.
Joanne enjoys performing in a variety of ensembles including the Sydney Opera House Babies Proms Orchestra, Sydney Sinfonia and Australian Youth Orchestra. She has accompanied artists such as Michael Buble, Delta Goodrem, Anthony Callea, Alex Lloyd and Katie Noonan. Joanne has also been playing violin on "Australian Idol" for the past two years.
Joanne has been a violinist in the Gloriette String Quartet since it began in 2002
